Luke Chambers, a Liverpool academy left-back, is attracting a lot of interest in a loan move for the upcoming season

It was around this time last year when most Reds fans first heard of Chambers. Last summer’s Asian trip earned plaudits from Kostas Tsimikas and signaled his developing talent.

Following that, he spent the second half of the season on loan at Kilmarnock. And, after impressing in Scotland, The Athletic reports that the 19-year-old might make a significant step forward in 2023/24.

Surprisingly, former Liverpool player Xabi Alonso is said to be interested in taking Chambers to Bayer Leverkusen for the season.

Championship clubs are thought to be’showing interest’ in the left-back. Sheffield Wednesday and Watford are also mentioned as possible destinations. However, Alonso and Leverkusen will catch the attention of supporters.

Of course, Chambers could yet wind up remaining at Anfield. According to the Athletic, Liverpool will ‘evaluate’ the youngster during pre-season before making a decision. At this point, though, a ‘higher level of difficulty’ loan appears to be the most likely consequence.

Alonso is asking for a loan from Chambers.
Who could have predicted this? Don’t get us wrong: Chambers has always appeared to be in good shape. During his tenure north of the border, Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes referred to him as “outstanding.” However, this would be a significant leap.

Obviously, it wouldn’t be as big a step as joining the Liverpool first team. But, with all due respect, the distance between Kilmarnock and Bayer Leverkusen is still quite substantial. But if old Xabi is interested, Chambers must have something extraordinary.

Alonso has had a successful coaching career thus far. Last season, the 41-year-old revitalized Leverkusen, leading them from relegation to the European Premier League.

In the aftermath of Liverpool’s decision not to sign Bellingham, Carragher has not been mute

Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool’s ’embarrassing’ signing is a “waste of money.”

The importance of Liverpool’s midfield woes this season cannot be emphasized.

Jurgen Klopp and his team will have to be cautious with their time and resources when the summer transfer window opens.

To the dismay of Anfield fans, the club’s long-running chase of Jude Bellingham has come to a stop.

With Carragher conceding at the end of last season that he needs to sign three midfielders in the next 12 months, the time has come to look for less expensive alternatives to the English teen.

Fans have ridiculed the club for its transfer ineptitude, and now Champions League champion Carragher has chastised the club for it.

“That is [Klopp’s] biggest mistake on this issue, and he knows it,” The Telegraph’s Carragher wrote. “The last-minute scramble for Arthur Melo on the last day of last August’s transfer window was the big giveaway that he realized his error in not recruiting before the final pre-season.”

Liverpool justified their large outlay as a strategy to buy time while looking for a long-term, world-beating midfielder.

“That was a colossal waste of money and a source of embarrassment.” Liverpool was thinking long term, which served as rationale at the moment.
