‘What on earth’: Andy Hinchcliffe left completely astounded by what a ‘world class’ Newcastle player accomplished against Tottenham today.

Newcastle United beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon

The Magpies have had a difficult week after failing to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, but there is now a positive vibe around the club as the international break approaches.

It was a scruffy encounter on Tyneside, but Eddie Howe’s side eventually grabbed their chances through Harvey Barnes and Alexander Isak.

However, one Newcastle player was strongly chastised on commentary for his role in Tottenham’s equaliser.

Andy Hinchcliffe is perplexed by what Nick Pope achieved against Tottenham.
Sky Sports Co-Commentator Andy Hinchcliffe was astounded by Nick Pope’s choice to slide the ball away moments before Dan Burn’s own goal.

“What on earth is Nick Pope doing here?” Hinchcliffe spoke.

“Why is he trying to shovel it away?” Madison’s initial shot isn’t so accurate or forceful that you have to parry it; you should be able to gather it.

“He sees everything as well. It’s a present for Tottenham. When the strike comes in, I’m left wondering why Nick Pope is trying to shovel that ball away. He can get it. That’s extremely terrible goalkeeping.”

Pope, described as ‘world class’ by the Chronicle, will be grateful to Isak, who won.

Newcastle have had a wonderful start despite disappointing performance.
Newcastle have officially opened their Premier League account with seven points from a potential nine, a fantastic result despite some lackluster performances.

Howe’s side struggled against Southampton and could have easily lost to Bournemouth on the South Coast if not for a dubious decision that disallowed Dango Outtara’s stoppage-time goal.

Even against Spurs, they were on the back foot for much of the game, so taking three points is definitely a plus.
