UNC to face successful Big Ten program in 2025 CBS Sports Classic

Tar Heels Set for a Showdown! UNC to Face Ohio State in 2025 CBS Sports Classic Clash in Atlanta

The North Carolina Tar Heels have their first marquee matchup of the 2025-26 season locked in — and it’s a big one.

As reported by Grant Grubbs of On3, UNC will take on Big Ten power Ohio State in the CBS Sports Classic on December 20, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia. The two schools last met in this event back in 2022, when the Tar Heels pulled out a thrilling 89–84 victory. Now, with both programs looking to bounce back from underwhelming seasons, the stage is set for another high-stakes battle.

While the full schedule for the upcoming season is yet to be announced, this game adds serious firepower to the Tar Heels’ early-season slate.

Tar Heels Reloaded

Head coach Hubert Davis has retooled the roster with impressive additions through the transfer portal, including standout center Henri Veesaar and speedy point guard Kyan Evans. They’ll join forces with a loaded recruiting class, led by five-star Caleb Wilson, and could be complemented by the return of key contributors Drake Powell and Ven-Allen Lubin.

UNC’s revamped lineup has already ignited excitement in Chapel Hill, and this high-profile matchup will serve as an early test for the Tar Heels’ chemistry and ceiling.

Buckeyes on the Rebound

Ohio State is coming off a rough stretch, missing the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year. However, under new full-time head coach Jake Diebler, there’s optimism that the Buckeyes are turning a corner. Diebler, a longtime assistant under Chris Holtmann, will look to restore OSU to Big Ten contention and prove they belong on the national stage once again.

The Buckeyes, while not a traditional “blue blood,” are a historically respected program and have the pedigree to challenge any team — especially one still settling into a new-look roster like UNC.

A Classic Battle on the Horizon

The CBS Sports Classic has long been a proving ground for top-tier programs. With Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio State, and newcomer St. John’s rounding out this year’s field, fans can expect fireworks in Atlanta.

For UNC, it’s more than just a regular-season contest. It’s a chance to build early momentum, gain national respect, and show that the Tar Heels are not just back — they’re ready to dominate.

Circle December 20 on your calendar. The Tar Heels vs. the Buckeyes is going to be must-watch basketball.
