UNC Basketball Enters the Competition for a Fruitful Future

The UNC basketball program has officially extended a scholarship offer to rising star Qayden Samuels, a dynamic wing whose stock continues to soar.

According to a report from 247Sports’ Dushawn London, North Carolina entered the mix for the Bishop McNamara (Md.) standout following his impressive showing at the NBPA Top 100 Camp in Rock Hill, S.C., where he stood out against elite competition in front of dozens of high-profile college coaches.

Samuels made a major statement at the camp, averaging more than 25 points per game and leading all participants in scoring for the week. Among the many coaches in attendance was UNC head coach Hubert Davis, who saw enough to quickly ramp up the Tar Heels’ pursuit of the 6-foot-5, 200-pound forward.

Samuels, now ranked No. 20 overall in the 247Sports 2026 Composite, has climbed significantly in the past year after sitting at No. 33 this time last summer.

As the 2026 recruiting cycle gains steam, UNC continues to go after some of the top talent in the country — with offers now out to around a quarter of the top 50 prospects, the majority of whom are still weighing their options. Samuels is now firmly on that radar, and the Tar Heels appear ready to compete hard for his commitment.
