UNC Basketball Alum Armando Bacot: ‘No Stopping’ in the G League

Former Tar Heel Star Armando Bacot Climbing Toward the NBA Spotlight

Although former UNC basketball standout Armando Bacot went undrafted following a decorated college career, his path to the NBA remains very much alive.

Despite not hearing his name called on draft night, Bacot — the all-time leader in rebounds and double-doubles at North Carolina — has continued to showcase his skills at the professional level. Standing 6-foot-11 and weighing 240 pounds, the 25-year-old forward/center hasn’t yet made his NBA regular-season debut, but he’s been making waves in the G League.

In his rookie season with the Memphis Hustle, the G League affiliate of the Memphis Grizzlies, Bacot proved to be a steady and dominant presence. His consistent performances earned him a spot in the NBA All-Star Weekend’s G League Up Next Game, a showcase for rising talent. In March, he added another milestone to his résumé by capturing his first G League Player of the Week award.

The NBA G League recently highlighted Bacot’s breakout year on social media, applauding his five 30-point games, including two monstrous double-doubles — one with 35 points and 14 rebounds, and another with 34 points and 25 rebounds.

Across the season, Bacot posted impressive averages of 18.2 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, numbers that signal his steady development and potential for an NBA roster spot.

While he may not have made his NBA debut just yet, Bacot is proving that he still has plenty to offer — and his journey toward the league is far from over.
