Ahead of the January transfer market opening later this week, here are the most recent Scottish transfer headlines
Celtic will get a transfer boost as the two go closer to leaving.
The news that Alexandro Bernabei, a defender on loan, is getting closer to making a permanent move to Internacional has given Brendan Rodgers an unexpected boost in transfers. Two years ago, when the champions paid Lanús approximately £3.75 million for his services, the left-back relocated to Celtic Park. The 24-year-old, however, returned to South America in March after failing to secure a consistent starting position. He inked an initial loan agreement with Brazilian club Internacional, where he has since played frequently.
Even though his loan period was successful, it was thought that his new team would not be able to pay Celtic’s asking price. However, Internacional’s circumstances have changed as a result of the multimillion-pound sale of 17-year-old sensation Gabriel Carvalho to Al Qadisiyah of the Saudi Pro League, and they are now attempting to move forward with a deal for Bernabei. According to the Celtic Star, after Celtic agreed to a price of £5 million plus add-ons, the club’s sporting director, André Mazzucco, will visit Glasgow this week to finalize a deal.
Stephen Welsh, a marginal player, is supposedly on the verge of signing a contract with Celtic that would enable him to join KV Mechelen on loan. The Hoops management is pleased to approve the Belgian team’s alleged offer for the Scottish defender.
To replace the former Ibrox man, the Gers’ ace?
After it was revealed that Trabzonspor had “established contact” with the club’s management regarding a January transfer, Rangers left-back Ridvan Yilmaz may make his way back to Turkey this month. The 23-year-old defender paid almost £5 million to join Rangers in the summer of 2022, but injuries have hampered his progress. Now, one of his previous coaches is trying to entice him to rejoin the Süper Lig.
The Istanbul-based team views Yilmaz as a successor for Borna Barisic, a former Rangers left-back who joined on a Bosman free transfer in July but has struggled with form, according to Futbol Anadolu. Having previously worked with the defender at Besiktas and the Turkish national team, head coach Şenol Güneş is said to have admired the Yilmaz, which is a major factor in Trabzonspor’s interest in him.
A gifted young Scot signs a “long-term” contract with Hibs
Rudi Molotnikov, a gifted Scotland youth international, has signed a new, long-term contract with Hibs, the team has confirmed. The 18-year-old signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Hibs that would last until the summer of 2029. He joined the team when he was ten years old.
Head coach David Gray commented on the news, saying, “I’m thrilled that we were able to reach an agreement on a new, long-term contract with Rudi. I have kept a close eye on his growth over my tenure at the Club, and I have been impressed by his drive to keep studying and putting in a lot of effort each day. He needs to continue pushing himself because he wants to do so constantly. We want to support him in realizing his full potential since he has a bright future at Hibs.
“Rudi is an exciting young player and is an excellent example of the types of players we’re producing in our Academy set-up,” said Sporting director Malky Mackay, who was equally thrilled to see Molotnikov commit to the team for the future. Our goal is to be a club that develops Academy players for the First Team and offers talented young people a chance. Our first consideration while making plans for the future is to examine ourselves and the people who will be entering our Academy. Rudi is deserving of this new contract, and I’m excited to watch his development.
A Scotland star is connected to an unexpected January transfer.
After being identified as a top target for Crystal Palace, Scotland’s Ben Doak may be used as a makeweight in a surprise January deal. The 19-year-old forward for Liverpool has been on loan with Middlesbrough, who are vying for promotion in the EFL Championship, for the first half of the season. He has had a significant impact at Riverside Stadium, contributing to seven goals in 17 starts. Doak may now be ready for a permanent swap after catching Oliver Glasner’s and the Palace executives’ interest, according to reports.
As per MailSport, Doak’s original club would be amenable to the transfer as long as Eagles skipper Marc Guehi makes the opposite move. Although it is thought that Doak would prefer to stay on Merseyside after his loan deal and still has aspirations of making it into Liverpool’s starting lineup, Liverpool manager Arne Slot is rumored to be interested in bringing the England defender to Anfield this January. It is thought that the Selhurst Park club would be open to a deal that includes Doak and a fee for Guehi.
