Spurs were thrashed 6-1 by Newcastle on Sunday and have made a change ahead of this weekend’s match against Liverpool
Tottenham have fired interim manager Cristian Stellini ahead of the Premier League match against Liverpool, after mounting pressure on him following a humiliating defeat against Newcastle.
Stellini was only appointed as manager in north London last month, after Antonio Conte was fired following Tottenham’s elimination from both the Champions League and the FA Cup in quick succession. Despite a promising start in his temporary position, the chaos has persisted.
In his first game as manager, Tottenham defeated surprise package Brighton and drew with relegation-threatened Everton. However, after back-to-back defeats to Bournemouth and high-flying Newcastle, support for the Italian and his credentials in the Tottenham hotseat quickly dwindled.
Tottenham remains in fifth place in their ongoing bid for Champions League qualification. However, after playing more games than the two teams currently above them, Newcastle and Manchester United, the board of directors has decided to take immediate action.
Tottenham have a crucial few days ahead of them. Indeed, they face Manchester United at home on Thursday (7.45pm), followed by a match against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, April 30 (4.30pm). Liverpool, on the other hand, has won their last two games.
Stellini, who assisted Conte throughout his tenure as manager, took charge in four games after stepping up to the top job, earning four points. Newcastle humiliated Tottenham 6-1 on Sunday afternoon, scoring five goals in the first 21 minutes.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy reacted for the second time in a month as a result. Ryan Mason, the club’s former midfielder, is expected to take over as manager for the rest of the season.
