The Reds forward has witnessed Manchester United and Newcastle United secure top-four positions before Jurgen Klopp’s team
Mohamed Salah, a forward for Liverpool, maintains there is no justification for skipping Champions League play. The 30-year-old acknowledges that the team’s fifth-place finish this season has disappointed fans and let them down.
Due to Manchester United’s 4-1 victory over Chelsea on Thursday night, fourth place is now out of reach for last season’s beaten finalists. Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United team already secured a top-four spot with Monday night’s goalless draw with Leicester City at St. James’ Park.
Jurgen Klopp’s team has struggled throughout the season, and their current 10-match unbeaten streak—which includes a run of seven victories—is the only thing that has given them a remote chance of earning a spot in Europe’s premier club competition. Salah, however, is disappointed because it is the first time in a full season at the club that Klopp has not finished in the top four, and now they are playing in the Europa League.
“I’m completely heartbroken. There is absolutely no justification for this, the Egyptian international, who rarely makes public remarks, argued in a stern tweet. “We had everything we required to qualify for the Champions League the following year, but we fell short.
“We are Liverpool, and entering the competition is the very least we can do. Sorry, but it’s too soon for a motivational or upbeat post. We failed both you and ourselves.
Despite having a poor season, Salah still managed to score 30 goals. He is one goal away from breaking the Premier League record of 20 goals and 10 assists in three seasons, which he currently shares with Thierry Henry.
With a goal against Southampton on Sunday, he will become the first Liverpool player since Roger Hunt in 1965–1966 to score 20 league goals in a season for the fifth time in six years at the club. He scored 19 in the other.
