Facundo Pellistri is still praised by a tiny number of Manchester United supporters and is now a regular for Uruguay, but he hasn’t really made an impact on Erik ten Hag’s first team. Next season, though, everything may change.
Along with Amad Diallo and Edinson Cavani, the teenage winger signed with the Red Devils in 2020, but he had to wait until Erik ten Hag‘s first season as manager before making his professional debut for the team.
On the surface, there doesn’t seem to be anything particularly unusual about it, but when you look a little closer, it’s rather shocking. The child is smart. Really excellent.
Even if he has already received 12 caps for Uruguay and consistently puts together an outstanding highlight reel everytime he is on the field, it doesn’t mean he gets a one-way, fast-track ticket into United’s starting XI. Instead, it makes you question why he hasn’t made more of an impact.
Pellistri made his United debut against Charlton in the Carabao Cup following a couple years of loan stints and terrorizing opposing defenders for the Red Devils’ under-23 squad.
The teenage winger has subsequently made a select few outings, but has failed to adequately exert pressure on Ten Hag.
Pellistri, though, continues knocking. Hard. comparable to a door-to-door salesperson who is anxious to meet their quota.
Even though United spent over £70 million for Jadon Sancho to finally address their right flank problem, the problem mostly hasn’t been resolved. Young Pellistri stands a great opportunity of winning over his management as long as that is the case.
Moments like the one he helped Uruguay generate earlier this week against Nicaragua would definitely aid his chances.
It’s amazing to imagine that he hasn’t yet been granted a regular schedule of games for United when you take into account everything said above and the fact that his name is actually Facundo Pellistri, the most football wonderkid thing you could possibly conjure up.
Pellistri is only 21 years old, so it’s obviously extremely early for him, but if you’re talented enough, you’re old enough. You may also persuade just about anyone that you are a rising baller if your name is well-known enough.
There is no reason why Pellistri can’t push his way into the debate for good if United are certain to play unfathomably much football again next season, like Alejandro Garnacho did under Ten Hag.
It’s about time the young man was given the opportunity to make an impression on the major stage. A smaller circle of United supporters has been hot on the boy for a long.
Although we don’t anticipate him to push his way into the starting lineup and make 30 starts the next season, his current cameo position off the bench, especially with Sancho still attempting to find his rhythm, looks to be made for him.
