Ange Postecoglou made a pledge to Tottenham fans on his first day as manager of the north London club.

Postecoglou, 57, was selected Antonio Conte’s replacement last month and has been charged with leading Tottenham Hotspur up the Premier League table after finishing ninth last season.

Despite bringing in big names like Conte and Jose Mourinho in the past, Tottenham supporters have been subjected to primarily negative football, with the crowds clamoring for an aggressive style of play to get them off their seats.

‘It’s also very essential to me that there is an aspect of something that most fans and players want to be identified with. People speak about football because it is thrilling. It’s not just about the ultimate result, but also about how you play football, which is very important to me because I believe it’s a method of being successful, and secondly, it helps people to grasp those aspects of our game that are most unique.

‘That’s what I strive to offer. You never get everything right, but the foundation will be that we want to be a club that wins but also entertains the fans. ‘We’ve got six weeks to prepare these men so that come the first weekend of Premier League football, we’re ready to go,’ he added.

Postecoglou has already strengthened his team with the acquisitions of James Maddison from Leicester for $45 million and Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, as well as making Dejan Kulusevski‘s loan contract from Juventus permanent.

Postecoglou left Maddison surprised during a phone chat, and the Australian claimed he was blown away by Maddison and Vicario’s personality and feels they have the appropriate character to carry out his concept.

‘It’s not just about the skill they bring as players, but also about what they offer as people, because we’re going to play football, which takes a specific type of mentality and character,’ he continued.
‘Both of those men have a lot of it. I could tell by the tone of their voices when I spoke to them that they were the appropriate people to bring inside the dressing room.’

With Harry Kane‘s future uncertain and their competitors growing, Postecoglou faces a difficult task.
