The Rangers-affiliated centre-back expresses his desire for a January transfer.

Ryan Porteous, who has been linked with a move to Rangers, is reportedly looking to leave Watford during the January transfer window, according to Fussball Europa.

The *Daily Record* reported on 6 January that the 25-year-old is being considered as a potential signing for Rangers, who are in urgent need of defensive reinforcements due to injuries depleting Philippe Clement’s options.

The Scotland international has reportedly expressed his desire to leave Watford, with Hull City already tabling a £1.6 million bid for him.

However, Rangers fans are unlikely to warmly welcome Porteous, given his history with the club. During his time at Hibernian, Porteous was involved in several controversies involving Rangers. He made a reckless challenge on former Rangers player Joe Aribo, which led to his sending off, and was criticized by Steven Gerrard for the incident. Instead of showing remorse, Porteous mocked Gerrard after the manager left for Aston Villa.

While Rangers’ need for defensive reinforcements makes a move for the 25-year-old logical on paper, considering his past controversies and unpopularity among the fanbase, pursuing other options might be wiser.

With fans already skeptical of Philippe Clement’s management, signing a controversial player like Porteous could further increase negativity. It’s hoped that Nils Koppen has alternative transfer targets in mind for the coming weeks.
