David Edgar has brought attention to Rangers’ issue after the tribunal’s ruling on Connor Barron on December 31
The Scotland international moved to Ibrox in the summer, and the Scottish FA has ordered Gers to pay Aberdeen £600,000. [Christopher Jack, December 31]
The host of the Heart and Hand podcast feels that the issue is not with players like Barron being signed for free, but rather with others who are paid up to £5 million.
“No chance,” he wrote on X. Guys like Barron are necessary on every team; they are not the issue. It’s the 3-5 million signings that consistently fall short.
Rangers need to resolve their transfer situation.
Edgar is entirely correct, especially in view of the tribunal’s ruling on Barron.
It’s true that Gers have had trouble with their expensive acquisitions; players who were bought for between £3 and £5 million have frequently fallen short of expectations on the field.
This practice of heavily investing in poor players has been costly and hasn’t helped the team get closer to Celtic.
Although it makes sense to sign players like Barron for free or for a very low amount, like £600,000, as they offer value and promise without breaking the bank, the true problem is the expensive errors made with more well-known purchases.
When these costly additions fail, they not only waste money but also impede squad expansion and financial flexibility, which makes it more difficult for the team to make investments that would actually raise their level of play versus Celtic.
