The former Duke runningback Star Thomas will be visiting Tennessee.

Tennessee is slated to host a running back who is currently in the transfer portal. Star Thomas, a former Duke Blue Devil, is slated to visit campus on Thursday. The news was reported by On3 on Wednesday.

Tennessee is seeking for seasoned running back depth with the departure of Dylan Sampson, who is headed to the NFL. The Volunteers are left with DeSean Bishop and Peyton Lewis in the backfield, both of whom had significant roles in 2024. They lack experience, which is why Thomas has piqued their curiosity.

Last season, Thomas rushed for 871 yards and seven touchdowns for Duke after transferring from New Mexico State. He averaged 4.1 yards per rush with the Blue Devils, down from 5.8 in 2023 with the Aggies. Thomas also had 20 receptions for 153 yards last season.

The former JUCO product is 6-0 and weighs 210 pounds.

Tennessee has been quiet in the transfer portal thus far, signing just Alabama receiver Amari Jefferson and Arizona offensive lineman Wendell Moe. The Volunteers still need offensive line and receiver help, as well as seasoned depth in the backfield. They are also examining cornerbacks following Jermod McCoy’s injury.

Cooper Flagg leads No. 2 Duke past NC State by dropping 28 points.

With a strong comeback in the second half against NC State, the Duke Blue Devils won their 14th consecutive game and improved to 10-0 in ACC play.

This season, Duke fell behind at halftime for the first time at home. At the half, the Wolfpack led 37–33 thanks to a solid shooting effort. Additionally, NC State limited Duke star Cooper Flagg to just five points during the first half.

With 28 points at the end of the game, Flagg really came alive in the second half. But the Wolfpack simply hung around in spite of Flagg’s offensive comeback in the second.

Dontrez Styles of NC State scored 18 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead the visitors. Trey Parker, a rookie, went 6-9 and made three 3-pointers while playing nicely off the bench.

After falling behind 13 points in the first half, Duke came back to take the lead in the second. With 4:40 remaining in regulation, the Wolfpack narrowly reduced the Duke lead to one point, but Flagg and the Blue Devils maintained their pressure and pulled away late to complete a fiercely contested victory.

When Clemson visits town on Saturday, NC State will try to recover. In the meantime, the first leg of the renowned Tobacco Road Rivalry pits Duke against fierce foe North Carolina.
