Last night, the traveling Celtic fans completely overwhelmed Morgan Rogers, the hat-trick hero for Aston Villa.
In Villa’s 4-2 victory over Parkhead, the forward scored three goals, two of which came in the first five minutes. Rogers doubled his team’s lead a few seconds after opening the scoring with a deft close-range goal.
In the final moments of the second half, the 22-year-old sealed the three points by completing his hat-trick.
Despite taking a two-goal lead early on, Celtic came back, so it wasn’t all smooth sailing for Villa. After a fast-paced brace by Adam Idah, the visitors were tied in the 38th minute.
When they made it 2-2, Rogers was astounded by the scenes in Villa Park’s Celtic section: “That away end,” he remarked (The Scottish Sun).
“I’ve never seen the away end like that, especially when they regained the two goals. I adore it. Even though Celtic lost their league phase campaign, they will still be hoping to play either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in the elimination stages of the playoffs.
Brendan Rodgers has acknowledged that playing either of the European powerhouses will be a “huge challenge.” The first leg is scheduled to take place in less than two weeks.
The 52-year-old, however, returns to home affairs for the time being. His team will play Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon at Fir Park.
