Since the Ibrox raid costs ‘The Greens’ a lot of money, the Rangers star represents a significant transfer ‘investment’ for the club overseas.

Cyriel Dessers is attracting transfer interest from abroad following a divisive spell at Rangers. According to reports, Ligue 1 club Saint-Étienne are keen to sign the striker, but the move would require a significant financial commitment.

Dessers joined Rangers in 2023 and has contributed 34 goals and 13 assists in 84 appearances. However, his inconsistent performances and missed opportunities have drawn criticism from fans and pundits alike. Having started just one of the last eight games for the club, his future at Ibrox appears uncertain.

Saint-Étienne, known as “The Greens,” are reportedly prepared to make a bid, but the 42Info outlet suggests the player’s valuation of €4 million, combined with his contract running until 2027, makes him a costly acquisition.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement currently has other attacking options, including Hamza Igamane and Danilo, and may not view Dessers as indispensable. Despite the scrutiny, Dessers has been open about handling criticism. Reflecting on a Europa League match against Olympiacos, where he scored but also missed key chances, he said:

“This is life as a striker. Even top players in the Champions League miss chances, so who am I not to miss? You always miss more than you score. That’s the reality of being a forward. Perceptions will always exist, but if I scored every chance, I wouldn’t be at Rangers.”

While Saint-Étienne’s interest signals potential changes for Dessers, the financial demands of the deal could be a significant hurdle for the French club.
