The Blue Devils have dominated the ACC over the previous five games.
On February 8th, the Duke Blue Devils (25-3, 16-1 ACC) suffered their first road and conference loss, 77-71 against Clemson. However, after the loss, Duke basketball has gone on a five-game winning streak, during which they have been completely dominating.
Duke is putting up unheard-of statistics in certain categories, and this has been one of the most dominating exhibitions of the college basketball season.
During its five-game winning run, the Blue Devils defeated California at home 78-57, Stanford at home 106-70, Virginia on the road 80-62, Illinois at Madison Square Garden 110-67, and Miami on the road 97-60.
Duke has won the five games by an average of 31 points. Only the Cavaliers have gotten within 20 points. This is insane.
The Blue Devils have also scored more than 100 points in two of those games, after already reaching the 100-point mark earlier in the season. One of those games, when Duke demolished Illinois, provided the Blue Devils with their highest margin of victory in a regular season neutral site game since the 1953-54 season, as well as their largest margin of victory in Madison Square Garden in 73 games played at the World’s Most Famous Arena.
Duke has also been effective on both sides of the court. In just one of the five games during this winning run, the Blue Devils have shot less than 50% from the field as a team, while holding opponents to less than 40%.
Freshman Kon Knueppel has been on fire for the most of this streak, averaging 17.3 points per night over his previous three games and connecting on eight of his 13 three-point tries, for a 61.5% clip.
Duke is also the #1-rated club at KenPom, as well as the only college basketball team ranked in the top five nationally in adjusted offensive efficiency (second) and adjusted defensive efficiency (fourth).
The Blue Devils have had an incredible winning streak during their previous five games, and it appears like the setback to Clemson fueled the locker room’s desire to prove they are the best team in college basketball.
Duke’s next game comes at home against Florida State (16-12, 7-10 ACC) on March 1 (7:00pm ET, ACC Network).
