Julia Scheib continued her stunning Giant Slalom season on Tuesday, powering to victory at Kronplatz to tighten her grip on the discipline standings, while Federica Brignone marked an emotional return to World Cup racing with an impressive sixth-place finish. The Austrian crossed the line in 2:19.85 after a strong second run that none of her closest rivals could beat.
Camille Rast, fresh from her breakthrough win in Kranjska Gora, settled for second place, finishing 0.37 seconds behind Scheib, as consistency once again paid off for the Austrian. Sweden’s Sara Hector, who had a course advantage in the second run, came closest to challenging for the win but ended up third, 0.46 seconds adrift. The result pushed Mikaela Shiffrin into yet another frustrating fourth-place finish in Giant Slalom this season.
For Scheib, the victory carried extra meaning. Kronplatz was the site of her World Cup debut back in 2018, and a slope that had previously brought more disappointment than joy. After years of DNFs and near misses, she finally conquered the demanding Erta piste, celebrating her fourth World Cup win of the season. As for Brignone, her top-six finish signaled a confident and emotional comeback, adding another compelling storyline to an already dramatic race day.
