Sadio Mane has told friends that he “misses Liverpool” and is desperate to return to the Premier League this summer after his Bayern Munich move became a source
However, the Merseyside giants have no plans to re-sign the Anfield idol, who is expected to leave the Bundesliga giants following a spat with Leroy Sane in the dressing room.
Bayern Munich is expected to make Mane available for transfer, with the goal of recouping the majority of the £27 million (up to £35 million with add-ons) paid to Liverpool last summer.
After eight glittering years in England at Liverpool and Southampton, Mane and his camp believe that a return to the Premier League is the most likely option.
The club, however, sees a return to Anfield for the Senegalese as a non-starter given the player’s age – he turned 31 earlier this week – and the squad’s make-up.
Liverpool are set to make significant changes to their squad this summer, in what is expected to be their busiest transfer window in years.
However, the majority of their efforts will be directed toward improving their midfield and defense.
The club has spent big money on three forwards in the last three transfer windows: Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Cody Gakpo, all of whom play in Mane’s preferred positions of left-sided forward and central striker.
According to Football Insider, the Senegal great pines for his old club and has privately admitted to friends that “I miss Liverpool and the Premier League.”
Mane has also been missed by Jurgen Klopp’s side, who have had a miserable season despite their attacking play being more effective than the team’s other flailing parts.
He made 269 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 120 goals and providing 49 assists across all competitions, and left his fans wanting more after leaving on the heels of arguably his best season at the club.
Mane scored 23 goals last season, and he was especially impressive in the final months of the season in a new center-forward role as Klopp’s team chased the quadruple.
Bayern offered the 92-times international a lucrative three-year contract with only one year remaining on his contract.
In Germany, he had 11 goals by October but has not scored since, and his career hit rock bottom when he punched Leroy Sane in the dressing room after the midweek Champions League defeat to Manchester City.
