Luis Diaz was praised by the Colombian crowd for his performance against Venezuela last night
Diaz played for 88 minutes in the 1-0 Los Cafeteros victory in Barranquilla, the Liverpool star’s hometown.
According to El Espectador, Roberto Melendez’s supporters at the Estadio Metropolitano were certain that he was the Man of the Match, even though he wasn’t involved in the game’s lone goal.
According to reports, “the entire stadium” applauded Diaz as he ensured that Colombia began their World Cup qualifying campaign with a victory.
It was a good night for the 26-year-old, who was called the “great figure” of the match by the newspaper.
Diaz gets a boost on his homecoming After missing out on the World Cup in Qatar last year, Diaz and Colombia will be desperate to qualify for the next tournament.
The Liverpool forward will be 29 years old at that point, still well past his prime. Even though there are other talented players around him, you would think that Diaz would still be the leader of his team when the tournament starts.
It is hoped that he will enter that having had a successful three years at Liverpool. Since his £50 million move in 2022, he has been on and off. Diaz, on the other hand, has made a strong start to this season with the injuries hopefully behind him.
After scoring two goals in the first two Premier League games, the team has gone two games without scoring. However, he didn’t have much of a chance to score against Newcastle because he was substituted early on.
In fact, Diaz is still trying to find his way back from the injury that was so disruptive last season. In that sense, he will benefit more from playing football in his legs.
Even though the former Porto player didn’t score yesterday, it’s great to hear that he was making fans happy.
Diaz is a player who lives solely for the purpose of entertaining the crowd. It is wonderful to observe, whether at Liverpool or at home in Colombia.
