Reece Potter Comes Home: Lexington Native Arrives on UK Campus to Begin His Wildcat Dream

Move-in week is officially heating up in Lexington and for one new Kentucky Wildcat, it’s more than just a change of address. It’s a homecoming.

Former Miami (OH) center Reece Potter has made his long-anticipated return to the Bluegrass, arriving on the University of Kentucky’s campus Thursday to begin his next chapter with the Wildcats. A Lexington native and Lexington Catholic alum, Potter is back where his basketball journey began  only now, he’s donning the blue and white for real.

The 7-foot-1 transfer joins fellow hometown product and incoming freshman Malachi Moreno at the Wildcat Coal Lodge, the two Bluegrass bigs moving in together as the latest additions to what is rapidly becoming one of the most intriguing rosters in college basketball.

The Kentucky Dream Becomes Reality

Potter, who played two seasons at Miami (OH), had his pick of programs after entering the transfer portal earlier this offseason. North Carolina, Washington, Louisville, and UConn all reached out. But once Mark Pope made the call, the decision was easy.

“Once Kentucky called me, it was like, ‘It’s time, I’m done talking to these people. Let’s get to the business,’” Potter told KSR last month.

The business, indeed, has started.

After a solid sophomore campaign  averaging 6.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game while shooting 46.6% from the field and an impressive 36.7% from beyond the arc  Potter brings much-needed size and stretch potential to a Kentucky frontcourt that’s reloaded in a big way.

The Move-In Wave Grows

Potter and Moreno join the growing list of newcomers who have already landed in Lexington ahead of summer workouts, including:

  • Jayden Quaintance, the elite Arizona State transfer and defensive phenom
  • Jaland Lowe, Pitt’s electric former point guard
  • Denzel Aberdeen, a rising scorer from Florida

That’s five down and nine more still on their way. The buzz around the Joe Craft Center is already palpable.

A New Era of Big Blue Basketball

Mark Pope’s 2025-26 roster is shaping up to be a versatile, modern, and deeply athletic team  a perfect blend of youth and experience. And for Potter, this isn’t just about basketball; it’s about coming full circle.

He grew up watching UK games at Rupp Arena. He dreamed of hearing his name called over the PA system as a Wildcat. Now, he’s living it.

“Welcome home, Reece.”

The future of Kentucky basketball isn’t just arriving  it’s unpacking.
