Rangers watch ‘unplayable’ forward score hat-trick as Gers ponder transfer loophole.

Rangers scouts were in attendance to see Kwame Poku score a League One hat-trick for Peterborough United.

The Gers are among numerous clubs tracking the Ghanaian international winger, 23, who has been in blistering form for the Posh this season.

Kwame Poku impressed Rangers scouts by scoring three goals in a 6-1 win over Cambridge United over the weekend, sparking questions about the winger’s future.

However, the Ibrox club will try to take advantage of a transfer loophole to avoid competition from a number of English Championship and Premier League clubs.

Rangers scouts monitor Kwame Poku.

Rangers News can exclusively reveal that Ibrox scouts were present to watch Poku complete his hat-trick at the Weston Homes Stadium, formerly known as London Road.

Rangers were not the only possible suitors in the stands, as a number of unverified Championship and Premier League talent scouts watched.

The situation is made even more intriguing by the fact that Poku will be out of contract at the conclusion of the season and free to negotiate terms with a new club in January.

Given that Poku was trained in England and is only 23, clubs south of the border interested in the winger must negotiate a development fee with Peterborough or face a tribunal.

However, the restrictions only apply when players transfer to clubs within their own country.

This implies Rangers can take advantage of this cross-border loophole and get Poku for a low, negligible sum.

Rangers might aim to sign Poku on a pre-contract in January and then negotiate a low-cost winter move as Peterborough, known for its stubbornness, seeks a return on the winger.

Alternatively, Rangers might sign a deal with Poku to acquire up the outstanding winger for a nominal development fee at the conclusion of the season.

The same restrictions apply to Rangers, who are now in talks with Aberdeen about Connor Barron’s transfer, despite the possibility of a tribunal.

Posh acknowledge keeping ‘unplayable’ winger will be ‘difficult’. Rangers’ search for a new left-winger ahead of the January transfer window has been well chronicled, and Kwame Poku appears to have caught their attention at Ibrox.

The Ghanaian winger, who won his one cap for his country in March 2021, has been in excellent form for Peterborough this season.

Poku’s three goals against Cambridge United raise his season total to 10 in all competitions, a record that has caught the attention of fans around the country.

The winger has seven assists in all competitions.

According to the Peterborough Telegraph, Posh boss Darren Ferguson has spoken highly of Kwame Poku and has been addressing the winger’s contract issue.

Ferguson describes the attacker as ‘unplayable’ and claims Peterborough has already offered Kwame Poku a new deal after rejecting bids in the summer.

But Ferguson has also confessed that getting Poku to sign a new contract ‘would be very difficult,’ with Peterborough expecting additional proposals for the Ghanaian ahead of the January window.

“If you watch him, the statistics don’t lie. I just adore working with the boy. He will concede, however, that it wasn’t just about him yesterday; it was a great team performance.”
