Rangers have experienced a hectic 24 hours after Barry Ferguson led the team for the first time as interim manager against Kilmarnock.

The Light Blues secured a 4-2 victory over Derek McInnes’ side at Rugby Park on Wednesday (27 February), marking a positive response in the Scottish Premiership.

John Souttar was absent from the match due to a prolonged injury spell.

Ferguson has temporarily stepped in for Philippe Clement, who departed following a disappointing season, leaving the position open for a new manager to take over next summer.

According to Dr. Rajpal Brar, Souttar may need surgery if his injury problems persist. The injury specialist expressed concern over the 28-year-old defender’s recurring fitness issues this season.

Speaking to Ibrox News, Dr. Brar stated: “It’s certainly worrying when a player faces multiple injuries in one season. This can lead to a cycle of lost fitness, reduced confidence, and disrupted rhythm, increasing the likelihood of further injuries.

“It’s hard to determine if surgery is necessary without more details on the injuries. However, if the issue is recurring, surgery could be an option in the summer.”

Dermot Gallagher on Rangers’ controversial decision against Kilmarnock

Dermot Gallagher supported the referee’s decision to award Rangers a corner before they scored their second goal against Kilmarnock.

Kilmarnock initially went two goals ahead before Vaclav Cerny scored in the first half, followed by Dessers’ equaliser after the break.

Before the Nigerian striker’s goal, Ianish Hagi argued that his shot deflected off a Kilmarnock player. Although the referee initially gave a goal kick, he later changed it to a corner.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (27 February), Gallagher said: “I believe it was the correct call to award a corner, as the ball did deflect off the defender. The referee initially gave a goal kick but likely received additional input before changing the decision. It became a talking point because a goal followed.”

Derek Ferguson open to Steven Gerrard’s return to Ibrox

Derek Ferguson expressed his support for Steven Gerrard potentially returning to manage Rangers.

Before his brother Barry was appointed interim manager, Derek told Ibrox News: “I was surprised by Steven’s departure from Saudi Arabia. I think Rangers fans would be open to his return.

“He delivered the club’s 55th league title, even though it took him three years. Regardless, he achieved it, and he’s highly respected – many fans admire him.

“If Gerrard were to come back, I’d be in favor of it. I certainly wouldn’t oppose his return.”
