Rangers intend to offload James Tavernier at the end of the season and have started looking for a successor as early as January, according to Football Insider.
This follows a series of poor performances from the skipper this season, with the Ibrox management increasingly convinced that it is time for both parties to move on.
Tavernier’s current deal extends until 2026, but the Rangers want to sell him in the summer of 2025 as a last-ditch effort to generate revenue from his departure.
By the end of the season, the 33-year-old will have spent ten years with the club, having made 479 appearances since joining from Wigan in 2015.
His 126 goals and 132 assists throughout that time have cemented his place among the Ibrox legends, and he has also helped the club win the SPFL title, Scottish Cup, and Scottish League Cup.
However, his diminishing performances have caused serious concerns behind the scenes, with the transfer team eager to bring in a replacement as early as January.
Confirmed: Gers will play friendly next week as manager launches fierce defence of Ibrox ‘enigma’.
Philippe Clement has defended Cyriel Dessers following his match-winning effort for Rangers in their victory over Hearts
The 29-year-old Nigerian international striker scored the game’s only goal as Rangers won the Scottish Premiership 1-0 at Ibrox.
And Philippe Clement used the opportunity to praise Cyriel Dessers for his contribution, following criticism of comments the striker made regarding his finishing ahead of the game.
The Rangers manager believes the big striker receives unjust criticism at times and claims other Scottish Premiership strikers get off considerably worse.
“He’s an enigma in the sense that he receives a lot of criticism for his finishing,” Clement told Premier Sports.
“And perhaps other strikers in the league receive much less criticism despite missing fewer opportunities and scoring fewer goals.
“That has been going on, but the most important thing is that he is not living that life and is always giving his all for the team.
“And he’s scored already a lot of goals this season.”

While Rangers’ victory was ultimately narrow, the team started strongly and delivered a fantastic first 20 minutes that enthralled fans.
Rangers are now preparing to take a fortnight off for the year’s final international break, and Clement has confirmed plans for a friendly match before returning to competitive play against Dundee United.
“(We played well) last week also against Motherwell and against Olympiacos,” claimed Clement. “And in moments in other games as well.
“But it’s about lifting the bar, making things better, therefore it’s critical to repeat this achievement.
“And so we have our internationals leaving, and we have the rest of the men; some will play a friendly game this week, and some will need a little more recovery time in the first week because they played so much.
“And like this to build for the next months to come to raise the levels again.
