Rangers are “set” to name a new assistant manager to replace Philippe Clement.

Reports state that Rangers will soon finalize Issame Charai’s employment as Philippe Clement’s first team assistant manager.

The 42-year-old Moroccan is expected to sign a three-and-a-half-year contract in Glasgow today afternoon after reportedly supervising a training session prior to Thursday’s pivotal Europa League match against Union Saint-Gilloise.

As bolsters its coaching staff for the second half of the season, Charai will join Clement’s backroom staff.

He comes with a solid record, having coached the Morocco Under-23 squad and worked with KV Mechelen and OH Leuven in Belgium. Hamza Igamane of Rangers, who has collaborated with Charai on the international scene, will be a recognizable face.

During his most recent press appearance, Clement was questioned about the story but refused to say if he agreed or disagreed. “I can only verify things once they are signed,” he stated.

I will inform you all if that is the case. The Belgian’s future in the Rangers hot seat has been under close scrutiny, but this decision seems to indicate that the board still supports him.
