Chelsea’s Interest in Jefte Takes a Turn as £10.5m Brazilian Deal Unfolds
Reports linking Chelsea to Rangers’ Brazilian left-back Jefte have been making waves this week.
The 20-year-old, who joined Rangers just six months ago, has already caught the attention of clubs in England, with initial links to Chelsea emerging from Brazil. Rangers, however, are keen to retain the former Fluminense player, who has become an important part of their squad. Despite this, Jefte is widely regarded as a future
Corinthians president Augusto Melo has shared details of Chelsea’s eye-catching €8m (£6.7m) deal for 16-year-old defender Denner, with the potential for an additional €4.5m (£3.8m) in add-ons.
Speaking to *Meu Timão*, Melo revealed that Chelsea will also pay Corinthians €100k (£84k) for every match Denner plays.
“It’s a fantastic deal,” Melo said. “He’s only 16 and hasn’t played a single professional game. We don’t know if he will succeed, yet the offer is €8m upfront, plus bonuses.”
Rangers fans may take note of Chelsea’s willingness to invest £10.5m in an untested teenager while rumors continue to swirl about Jefte’s future.
Jefte Advised to Stay at Rangers
Since Jefte is four years older than Denner and has significantly more first-team experience, Chelsea could still see him as a more developed alternative.
However, Rangers manager Philippe Clement has urged the young left-back to remain at Ibrox, believing it to be the best environment for his development.
“Without a doubt, yes,” Clement said when asked if Jefte should stay.
“I know those kinds of clubs. I’ve had players move there or to similar teams. Maybe one day, if he continues to progress as he is now, he will be ready for that step. But at this moment, it’s too soon. This is the ideal place for him to develop, and he’s not concerned with any of these rumors.”
