According to Peter Martin, Rangers may be the subject of a second SFA investigation following the events of the 2-2 draw with Motherwell.
After losing 2-1 to St Mirren the previous weekend, the Gers were keen to go back to winning ways when they took the field at Fir Park on Sunday, December 29.
Replays revealed that Robin Propper’s header touched the forward’s hand during the build-up, but Apostolos Stamatelopoulos gave Motherwell the lead after 16 minutes.
Martin, a reporter for PLZ Soccer, thinks that following the events in the Scottish League Cup final versus Celtic, further inquiry may be necessary.
“I feel like another investigation may be coming up,” he remarked.
Philippe Clement may lose his Rangers position due to SFA.
After struggling to stay at Ibrox throughout the season, Clement was finally able to see his hope dashed.
In the Scottish Premiership, the Light Blues have fallen further behind Celtic, and if there was any chance of a comeback in the second half of the season, it’s time to give up.
After more appalling Rangers defense allowed the forward to pick up a loose ball and shoot past Jack Butland, Tawanda Maswanhise delivered the game-winning blow in the 35th minute at Fir Park.
The cracks were not even partially patched by pulling two goals back. Let’s be reasonable.
But the focus will shift to the controversial events that led to the opening goal and the VAR officials’ decision to remain silent following the obvious handball.
Following Vaclav Cerny’s denial of a penalty in the League Cup final, Alan Muir and Frank O’Connor were dismissed of their officiating roles in the SPFL, and the Gers’ supporters will surely seek similar consequences.
It is debatable whether play should have been stopped because Stamatelopoulos’ hand was tucked under his body when the ball made contact, but the deflection went straight to Motherwell’s first goal.
In any case, Hamza Igamane’s brace in the second half earned him a share of the spoils, although Clement won’t care much because he might be leaving Ibrox after failing to win again.
