According to a recent update, Rangers are reportedly considering offering a 47-year-old manager the chance to replace Philippe Clement as head coach until the end of the season. Rangers Seek Replacement for Clement

Clement’s tenure at Ibrox seemed destined to end after a string of disappointing results, particularly in the Scottish Premiership. Despite still being in the Europa League, a significant turnaround appeared unlikely in the coming months.

The final straw came with Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat to St Mirren, leaving Rangers 13 points behind Celtic, even after Celtic’s loss to Hibernian over the same weekend. As a result, the club has started searching for Clement’s successor.

Fabrizio Romano hinted at a possible reunion with Steven Gerrard but stated, “At the moment nothing has been decided… the club is assessing options to replace Clement but nothing direct yet with Gerrard or his camp.”

In the meantime, Rangers are expected to appoint an interim manager until the end of the season, and a new report has revealed a leading candidate.

47-Year-Old in Line for Interim Role

According to The Daily Record, Rangers are considering appointing former player Barry Ferguson as interim manager until the summer. The report suggests that the 47-year-old is likely to “be given the chance to lead the club” until a long-term successor is appointed. Talks are reportedly ongoing, and a deal could be finalized within 24 hours.

Ferguson, a beloved former captain who won six Scottish Premiership titles and was named Player of the Year three times, would likely be a popular choice among fans. Although his managerial career has been modest—most recently managing Alloa Athletic until February 2022—his deep connection to the club and passionate approach could help restore a positive atmosphere at Ibrox.

While some supporters might prefer a more experienced interim coach, Ferguson’s appointment would allow Rangers to take their time in selecting a permanent manager this summer. If he performs well, particularly in the Europa League, Ferguson could even emerge as a candidate for the job on a full-time basis.
