One of the world’s best young midfielders is now ‘closer to Liverpool’ than Real Madrid, according to a journalist.

Due to expiring contracts and aging legs, Liverpool will need to bolster their midfield ranks this summer

The Reds recently called off a move for Jude Bellingham, who is now reportedly close to joining Real Madrid.

Another of the world’s best young midfielders, however, is reportedly ‘closer’ to joining Liverpool than Los Blancos.

Manu Sainz, a Spanish journalist, recently spoke to AS via Sport Witness about Gabri Veiga’s future.

According to Football Transfers, Liverpool has been watching the Celta Vigo prodigy ‘for a while’.

Later that month, AS, via Sport Witness, reported that the Reds were willing to pay his €40 million (£35 million) release clause.

According to several Madrid-based journalists, Veiga is more likely to join the Premier League than Real Madrid.

In addition to Liverpool, Manchester City has been linked with the 20-year-old.

Real, on the other hand, has reportedly entered the race and is now “bidding” for Veiga.

‘I’ve been following him for a long time.’

Having said that, Saiz believes Veiga is more likely to end up at Anfield than at the Bernabeu.

Newcastle United were also mentioned by the reporter as being the “first” to travel to Vigo to observe him.

“Let us wait and see what happens with Gabri Veiga.” “I still see him in the Premier League (rather than La Liga),” Sainz said.

“It is true that Madrid is bidding for Veiga, as our colleague reported a few days ago.” But I don’t see him anywhere near Madrid.

“I see him closer to Liverpool, for example, a club that has long been interested in him.”

“Newcastle was the first club to travel to Vigo to monitor him. And you already know they’re willing to pay the €40 million release clause. Liverpool is, too.

“The ball is now in Veiga’s court.” He will decide which option he prefers because once the club agrees to pay the €40 million clause, there is little room for negotiation.

“He can choose what he prefers.”

In our opinion
Veiga has been one of La Liga’s most promising young players this season. In 31 league appearances, he has nine goals and four assists.

ESPN recently named him to their list of the 39 best footballers under the age of 21.

If Celta can’t tie him down to a new contract with a higher release clause, Liverpool could get a steal in Veiga.

The Reds will, however, face stiff competition from other top clubs. So, if they want him, they should work harder to sign him.
