Morehead State Lands Scoring Phenom Chase Dawson for Men’s Basketball
MOREHEAD, Ky. – In a major boost to their backcourt firepower, Morehead State Men’s Basketball has landed one of the most electric scorers in the country: Chase Dawson. The 6-foot guard from Durham, N.C. will be transferring in from Mount Olive (N.C.), where he was named the 2024-25 Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year after a breakout debut season.
Dawson lit up the Division II circuit, pouring in 642 points over 30 games—the third-most in a single season in Mount Olive program history. His scoring prowess was unmatched in the conference, as he led Conference Carolinas in total points and field goals made (230), while also ranking second in free throw accuracy at a blistering 83 percent.
“The addition of Chase gives us another dynamic guard in our backcourt,” said Morehead State head coach Jonathan Mattox. “He scores the ball in a variety of ways at an efficient rate. His ability to get by defenders, finish in traffic, and shoot the three really separates him as a scorer!”
Dawson averaged 21.4 points per game, eclipsing the 20-point mark 18 times, including two explosive outings over 30 points. His signature moment came in a 110-105 overtime thriller against Barton College, where he dropped a career-high 38 points, cementing his status as a clutch, volume scorer.
But Dawson isn’t just a scorer—he’s a complete contributor. Alongside his offensive production, he added 84 assists, 65 rebounds, and 40 steals, showcasing his all-around game and defensive potential. He shot a sharp 51.1 percent from the field and added 51 three-pointers, providing spacing and versatility on the perimeter.
Before his college debut, Dawson honed his skills at Flight 22 Prep Academy in Wilmington, N.C., where he developed into a confident, high-IQ playmaker with elite scoring instincts.
With his arrival in Morehead, Dawson joins a program hungry for postseason success, and his presence will undoubtedly energize the Eagles’ offense.
Keep an eye on Chase Dawson. With his track record of immediate impact, the high-flying guard is poised to become one of the top stories in mid-major college basketball.
