Michael Owen has acknowledged that his preseason judgment of Fabio Carvalho was incorrect
Prior to the start of the season, the pundit predicted Carvalho would win Young Player of the Year while speaking on Premier League Productions.
Sadly, the Portuguese midfielder’s situation hasn’t exactly turned out that way. This season, he has hardly appeared for the Reds, and his future is now in doubt.
Owen acknowledged that he had made a mistake in picking Carvalho as the potential Young Player of the Year after being reminded of his preseason prediction.
Owen erred.
The analyst reviewed his previous forecasts.
“Let’s gloss over those final two and forget about them. We can put those behind us because we’ve had a successful season. In all seriousness, the young talent was probably a bad choice, but the player to watch (Luis Diaz) I’m not too upset with that one because he got hurt and if you ask me to do it again next season he might be in my thoughts, Owen said.
not simple
It’s always difficult to predict who the Young Player of the Year will be in any given season, but Carvalho has really underperformed here.
It’s not that Carvalho isn’t an excellent player. He dominated the Championship last season, but he doesn’t fit into Jurgen Klopp’s system and didn’t get enough chances.
What the future holds for Carvalho remains to be seen; he’s a fantastic young player with a lot of potential, but he needs time to develop into the player he appeared to be when he was at Fulham.
