Mark Williams’ lack of effort against the Washington Wizards was criticized by a Hornets commentator.

An announcer for the Hornets criticized Mark Williams for his lack of effort against the Washington Wizards.

The newest player to join the Los Angeles Lakers is Mark Williams. In order to fill the void at center, Rob Pelinka negotiated a late-night deal to acquire the former Duke standout. However, Hornets commentator Terrence Oglesby chastised Williams for not trying hard against the Washington Wizards, which might be a sign of trouble for the Lakers.

“I don’t mind whether shots are missed or mistakes are made. But I can put up with those things if there’s at least some attempt. I’ve never seen a starting center in the NBA perform like Mark Williams did in the first half.

“He was so poor from an effort perspective today that they had to switch him off of Jonas Valanciunas, and then he was giving up wide-open three because he wasn’t hustling out to contest threes.”

“A better effort is required. Whatever the case, you may be down 23 points. The offense and defense of this Washington Wizards club are at an all-time low. And since you don’t feel like moving, they are outscoring you by 23 points on your home floor. This is absurd.

It’s unacceptable, Mark Williams, if you’re going to be the focal point of a franchise that has invested in you and has made plans for you to be a key component of their future.

With 23 points (7-12 FG), 14 rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block, Mark Williams had a respectable effort against the Wizards. He finished the game with a defensive rating of 112.6, although his defensive play was far from ideal.

He had a far worse game in what turned out to be his last game with the Hornets. He finished the game with a defensive rating of 126.4 after scoring six points (2-8 FG), pulling down five rebounds, and dishing out two assists against the Milwaukee Bucks.

If he wishes to escape the severe and outspoken criticism that comes with being a Lakers player, he will need to make significant progress.

Williams is positioned to succeed with the Lakers.
Fans shouldn’t overlook Williams’ awful play in the previous two games, but it’s important to remember that he was a member of the Hornets, who are regarded as one of the worst teams in the NBA and had a 12-35 record in the East. Williams is positioned for success as a member of the Lakers, which has two of the league’s greatest and most intelligent players in Luka Doncic and LeBron James.

James and Doncic both thrive at motivating their teammates, particularly big men. Williams may step up his game if he concentrates and pays attention to the two stars. He now shoots 58.6% from the field and 78.0% from the free-throw line, averaging 5.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 0.7 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game.

When Luka and LeBron get to know Williams and develop a relationship, they will be able to help him reach his full potential. However, as Oglesby previously stated, if Williams doesn’t work more, it will be in vain.
