Manchester United have ruled out the option of loaning out Harry Maguire to Newcastle United, but they are willing to sell their captain to one of their top four opponents.
Maguire has dropped down the pecking order at Old Trafford this season, starting just eight league games for the club, with three Premier League clubs interested in signing him this summer.
Newcastle United are among them, but according to The Sun, Eddie Howe’s side has been advised that they must buy the England international, with a loan move out of the question.
Aston Villa are also interested in the former Leicester City player, with the source claiming that United would be more open to a loan offer from Unai Emery’s side.
Tottenham, however, have been linked with the 30-year-old but have yet to make their intentions clear.
Maguire was dropped from Erik ten Hag‘s starting lineup at the start of the season, with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane replacing him.
During the later stages of the season, the Dutchman also favoured Victor Lindelof, with left-back Luke Shaw being selected ahead of Maguire on several occasions.
Ten Hag recently claimed that his captain is dissatisfied with the circumstances and that he may depart Old Trafford this summer.
‘This situation would make no one happy. ‘He is not doing well. ‘He always trains at his best, with 100% effort,’ Ten Hag remarked.
So he manages that scenario effectively, and he’s crucial for the squad because of his captaincy.’
Asked if Maguire will stay, ten Hag added: ‘Let’s say I’m glad he’s here and when we needed him he did his job. But it is also a decision that he must make.’
United are believed to be working on a deal to sign Napoli midfielder Kim Min-Jae and may cash in on Maguire to help fund that move.
