Manchester United have been heavily linked with a deal for Harry Kane this summer, but a new update has emerged that could put a damper on those hopes.

What’s the latest on Manchester United’s pursuit of Harry Kane?
According to The Times, the Red Devils have given up hope of signing the Tottenham Hotspur striker this summer.

According to the report, Daniel Levy is adamant about not parting ways with his most valuable asset, while Erik ten Hag is determined to make Kane his starting forward.

Man United are said to have tried to sign the striker already, but Levy is certain that he would not be moved to bolster a Premier League rival, despite having only one year left on his contract.

Should Manchester United keep looking for Harry Kane?
There is no doubt that the Manchester giants will be anxious to bolster in the centre-forward position this summer, following the terrible performances of loanee Wout Weghorst and staple Anthony Martial, with no time to waste in finding the ideal player to take up the role ahead of next season.

However, Ten Hag should not give up on signing Kane, who has been described as “exquisite” by Jamie Redknapp, as the 29-year-old would be a huge asset in the forward line and would easily become the club’s answer to Wayne Rooney, with the now retired striker never really being replaced at Old Trafford.

Kane succeeded the Manchester United icon as the most trusted centre-forward for the England national team, not only following in his footsteps to lead the side but also smashing his all-time goal-scoring record on the international stage.

In terms of playing style, the pair are even more similar, with Rooney frequently dropping deeper than a traditional number nine into a fluid play-making role towards the end of his career.
That saw him worry opponents in the same manner that Tottenham‘s striker does for his team, both comfortable, confident, and prolific in a deeper role with excellent wingers on either side operating to create chances for them.

Taking everything into account, the most striking and important resemblance that the pair share is their unrivaled finishing and ability to kill games with their vision for goal, which would return Man United to the elite level at which they were playing when their all-time goalscorer represented the team in the final third.

Over 49 appearances in all competitions this season, the £100m-valued England captain – dubbed the Premier League’s “GOAT” by Christian Stellini – scored 32 goals and provided five assists, accounting for 47% of Spurs’ goal participations and finishing second to Erling Haaland in the race for the golden boot.

That being said, if Manchester United can strike a deal to sign Kane this summer, they should seize the opportunity with both hands, as his leadership, style of play, and appetite for goals might solve Ten Hag’s biggest concern next season.
