Manchester United is now interested in Bundesliga star Manchester United’s transfer window isn’t going as planned.
With a search for top target Harry Kane halted and no takeover completed, United thought that by chasing Mason Mount – a player permitted to leave Chelsea – they might offer an early move to manager Erik ten Hag to smooth the transition into next season.
Mason Mount is the most recent Manchester United transfer.
United has been frustrated by three proposals, the most recent of which was rejected on Friday night for £55 million. Their summer initiative is off track since the team is weaker today than it was at the end of last season.
The goal for this summer was to enhance the starting lineup, but even the most basic squad stats are presently down. United loanees Marcel Sabitzer and Wout Weghorst have not been retained or replaced, despite the club’s desire for a No9, defensive midfielder, and center-half. Of course, there is also the issue of requiring a goalkeeper, with David De Gea questioning the club’s treatment of him after 12 years of service.
It’s a tough moment, but for the sake of this article, let’s concentrate on the midfield.
United intended for the third offer to be the final one for Mount. They have refused to accept Chelsea’s £65 million assessment, even with add-ons, since it is £15 million higher than they feel his actual price is, given the one year left on his contract and the fact that neither Chelsea nor Mount have shown a desire to put their issues aside. United must now decide whether to leave Chelsea with Mount for pre-season or to engage in a last round of negotiations to ensure a signing.
Even with Mount, they still require at least one more midfielder. There are alternatives…
What other midfielders is Manchester United interested in?
Both Leon Goretzka and Ryan Gravenberch are questioning how they are perceived at Bayern Munich, and it is a situation that United is well aware of. Goretzka has lately been linked with a transfer to United, but insiders say his desire to stay and battle for his spot is stronger than his desire to depart. This will only change if it becomes evident that he is not wanted and Bayern enters the market.
Gravenberch is a somewhat more fascinating one, and one that is not widely discussed – mostly because Liverpool is the most frequently mentioned – but Ten Hag’s Ajax connection adds to this fascination. He is truly concerned about his playing time at the Allianz Arena following his £16 million deal last summer and would be more willing to make the switch to England.
Declan Rice, a personal friend of Mount’s, has been considered, but with no takeover finalized, the money to become engaged on a monetary level are difficult to come by. United would be willing to put players into a deal if it meant beating out Arsenal and Manchester City.
There is still genuine interest in Adrien Rabiot at Juventus, a player who gets more appealing every time, and his experience and abilities would benefit Ten Hag at a time when the transfer market is looking a little dangerous.
They adore Southampton‘s Romeo Lavia but have not yet moved on. If they were going to do that, now would be the optimum moment since his primary opponents, Arsenal and Chelsea, are preoccupied with other matters.
Everton‘s Amadou Onana is a player on whom they have reports, although he appears to be more of an observation point at the time.
Players begin reporting for pre-season at the beginning of July, and if there is to be a new face in the dressing room, United must act quickly.
