Man United gains significantly as a result of SL Benfica reducing the asking price for Gonçalo Ramos

Manchester United received some fantastic news today regarding one of their top transfer targets, Gonçalo Ramos, despite the fact that the cost of every half-decent football player on the globe is rising quicker than a rat up a drainpipe.

Erik ten Hag‘s first objective this summer is bringing in a talented striker, but the field of candidates seems to be shrinking daily.

Because they think Spurs chairman Daniel Levy won’t bargain, United allegedly withdrew their pursuit of Harry Kane in recent days. In the meanwhile, Rasmus Hojlund and Randal Kolo Muani have each had outrageous €100 m plus price tags from Atalanta and Eintracht Frankfurt, respectively, and Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis has expressed no desire to sell Victor Osimhen for anything less than €140 million.

Marcus Thuram, who was said to be on Ten Hag’s list, appears to be joining AC Milan on a free transfer.

There are just three players left from the list of routinely reported names: Ramos of Benfica, who is also “blinded” by a €120 million release clause, Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus, and Lautaro Martinez of Inter, who appears to be headed to Chelsea.

To make matters worse, it was disclosed yesterday that Ramos is the French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain‘s top summer target.

But this morning, Correio de Manha reports that Benfica are willing to take a significant discount on that buyout sum and that they have already lined up his replacement, giving United a huge glimmer of optimism.

According to the site, “Benfica intend to cash in an amount of around €80 million,” which is still less than the termination clause of €120 million.

The sharks of Manchester United and PSG are in the lead as the desire for the Portuguese striker grows.

Ramos is said to be “at the exit door” by CM, and Taty Castellanos of New York City is ready to take over.

Ramos’ potential value of €80 million, or merely £68 million, may drastically change the situation for cash-strapped United.

Beating PSG to the punch would be the biggest issue left.

Ramos, who is still only 21, would be a great addition to United. The Olho player is undoubtedly the ideal Ten Hag striker. He finished second in Liga Portuguesa scoring last season and scored a spectacular World Cup hat-trick when he replaced Cristiano Ronaldo. He excels at pressing, moves beautifully, can score goals, and, as his World Cup hat trick showed, loves to be under pressure.
