Flau’jae Johnson Anchors LSU Women’s Basketball Amid Major Roster Overhaul
As LSU head coach Kim Mulkey reshapes the women’s basketball program with a fresh influx of transfers and recruits, one constant remains for the Tigers heading into the 2025–26 season: Flau’jae Johnson.
While the team enters a new era, Johnson continues to be the bedrock. The veteran guard confirmed in April she’ll return for her senior season, and on Monday, she underscored her commitment in a passionate Instagram post:
“Three years deep at LSU. I remember stepping on campus as a freshman—wide-eyed but ready. That national championship wasn’t just a moment, it was proof that hard work pays off. Every practice, every setback, every injury—from my shin to my eye—made me stronger. From that to the Elite Eight. I’m coming back. We’re coming back—stronger.”

The post, featuring her defiantly yelling “I’m back” on the court, made it clear that her drive is as strong as ever. Johnson, originally from Savannah, Georgia, has been a standout since arriving in Baton Rouge.
Her résumé speaks for itself: a national championship in 2023, SEC Freshman of the Year, second-team All-SEC honors as a sophomore, and first-team All-SEC last season. She was also named a third-team All-American in 2024.
In her junior season, Johnson averaged 18.6 points and 5.6 rebounds across 34 games. Her campaign ended with a valiant 28-point effort in LSU’s Elite Eight loss to UCLA on March 30.
Now, as the Tigers add major pieces like Kate Koval and Amiya Joyner through the transfer portal, Johnson returns as the soul of a revamped roster—ready to lead LSU in pursuit of another deep postseason run.
