The Chelsea midfielder could stay put this summer
According to a new transfer update, Liverpool may miss out on signing Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount this summer.
Mount is leaving Chelsea?
The Englishman’s future has been a major talking point recently, with much speculation surrounding whether or not we will remain at Stamford Bridge. He had a disappointing season by his high standards, scoring only three goals in 35 appearances across all competitions, and he has yet to sign a new contract.
Mount has been linked with a summer move to Liverpool instead, with the Reds in desperate need of new signings in the middle of the park. He appears to be someone Jurgen Klopp admires and believes would improve that area of the pitch at Anfield, and reports suggest a transfer is on the cards.
The 24-year-old has been at Chelsea since he was a child, and a new update suggests that his departure is still far from certain.
Will Liverpool pass up Mount?
According to Football Insider, there is now “growing speculation within Chelsea that Mason Mount will reject Liverpool’s interest and sign a new long-term contract.” According to the report, the “imminent appointment of Mauricio Pochettino has given those inside Stamford Bridge hope that Mount will stay put.”
The Blues have “promised Mount more first-team action and a key role in the side as part of his contract negotiations,” in the hope that he will stay in west London longer.

Mount appears to prefer to stay at Chelsea in the long run, as long as he is offered an acceptable contract, so Liverpool may need to look elsewhere for an alternative. Someone like Brighton’s Alexis MacAllister, who has eight Premier League goals and averaged 2.1 tackles per game this season, could be an ideal candidate.
