Liverpool want to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia at the end of the season
According to Football Insider, Liverpool has contacted Southampton about a summer move, and they will face competition from clubs such as Chelsea and Arsenal.
Despite the Saints’ relegation, the 19-year-old defensive midfielder has performed admirably for them, and he is expected to join a major club this summer.
Liverpool need to strengthen their midfield this summer, and Lavia would be a good long-term addition. In the middle of the field, he will provide much-needed defensive discipline and physicality.
Chelsea is reportedly working behind the scenes to sign the player as well, but Liverpool is now hoping to hijack the deal.
The 19-year-old needs to join a club where he can play first-team football on a regular basis, and both Chelsea and Liverpool could provide him with that opportunity.
This summer, Liverpool lost free agents Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and James Milner. Chelsea, on the other hand, is expected to lose Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, and N’Golo Kante.
Liverpool are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Alexis MacAllister and will look to sign Lavia once the deal for the Argentine international is completed.
The midfielder joined Southampton from Manchester City last summer, and the Premier League champions have a buyback clause in his contract worth around £40 million that will go into effect in the summer of 2024. It makes sense for Southampton to try to sell him for a higher price this summer, and where he ends up remains to be seen.
