Liverpool have allegedly ‘dismissed’ claims that they have already beaten Premier League rivals Newcastle United to the acquisition of Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram for £50 million

Ibrahima Konate is more familiar with the quick-footed France U21 international than most.

When questioned about the possibility of Khephren Thuram joining him at Anfield by RMC Sport, the Liverpool defender couldn’t have been more friendly.

“I’d be very happy for him to come to Liverpool,” Konate says with a smile. “I would take him under my wing and do everything I could to help him progress and become the player he aspires to be.”I saw him perform and advance. It was amazing. Even when he was called up to the France team for the first time. I watched him in training and was blown away by his stature and technical skill.”

Khephren Thuram, a nice star, is an alternative for Liverpool.
The enforcer, Marcus’s brother and Lillian’s son, has a grace and touch that belies his rangy 6ft 4ins physique. Meanwhile, Thuram’s deadly mix of strength and poise is threatening to make him one of the summer’s most sought-after players, though’senior sources’ at Liverpool are dismissing reports that personal terms have already been agreed with the £50 million-rated playmaker (The Athletic).

Newcastle is also interested (The Telegraph). Though the Magpies may be forced to examine lower-cost options such as Wolfsburg’s Felix Nmecha and Celta Vigo’s Gabri Veiga, Eddie Howe’s summer budget is expected to be about £75 million.

Meanwhile, Liverpool and the representatives of both Thuram and fellow Frenchman Manu Kone have booked negotiations, according to Fabrizio Romano. According to the Daily Mail, the latter might be worth roughly £15 million less than his dreadlocked counterpart.

Meanwhile, Borussia Monchengladbach director Roland Virkus has revealed that the athletic, all-action Kone will be permitted to leave the Bundesliga club for the correct price.

“Our attitude is well-known,” says Virkus to Kicker. “If there are sums involved that a club like Borussia has to think about, we will do it (sell him).”

Liverpool have already acquired one midfielder this summer, Alexis MacAllister from Brighton for a low fee of £35 million.
