Due to his behavior after Liverpool’s victory over Tottenham, Jurgen Klopp has been given an FA suspension that will prevent him from coaching for at least one game
After receiving a suspension from the FA, Jurgen Klopp will be unable to coach Liverpool for at least one match.
The Reds won’t have their coach barking orders from the dugout as they try to secure a top-four spot in the remaining weeks as a result of Klopp’s outburst and actions after his team’s recent 4-3 victory over Tottenham.
Liverpool, who have been inconsistent all season, have put together their best winning streak at the best possible time. Their victory at Leicester was their seventh in a row as they attempt to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
If they make it, they’ll be missing several key players, including James Milner and Roberto Firmino, who has been praised by one of his teammates.
Klopp’s two-game suspension
The FA has handed Klopp a two-match touchline ban and fined him £75,000 for comments he made following Liverpool’s win over Tottenham last month.
The German took issue with referee Paul Tierney, claiming he had a beef with him. Klopp will only be banned for one match, with the second suspended and served only if he commits another violation before the end of the season.
Liverpool defeated Tottenham 4-3 at Anfield, with Diogo Jota scoring in stoppage time in front of the Kop. Klopp, enraged by the refusal to call a foul on Mohamed Salah prior to Tottenham’s equalizer, went up to fourth official John Brooks and celebrated in front of his face.
Brooks advised Tierney to show a yellow card, and the referee consulted VAR before booking the Liverpool manager. Brooks’ conversation with Tierney, as well as Tierney’s conversation with Klopp, have since been made public.
Trent’s new role
If Klopp wants to use Trent Alexander-Arnold in a new midfield role, he should play Calvin Ramsay at right-back.
For much of Klopp’s tenure, Liverpool star Alexander-Arnold has occupied his spot on the right side of the defense and has been part of a hugely successful period. His ability in the final third has been critical to his team’s philosophy, but his defending has remained an issue.
Alexander-Arnold’s ability in the defensive third has been heavily criticized, and some have questioned whether the England international can play there in the long term. Ramsay joined the club from Aberdeen in the summer but has yet to make an appearance.
Firmino’s kudos
Liverpool’s success, according to Andy Robertson, “wouldn’t have been possible” without the departure of Roberto Firmino.
The Brazilian joined Liverpool in 2015, when Brendan Rodgers was still in charge, and has since become an integral figure under Klopp, winning every trophy available. Firmino, however, will leave Anfield after eight glorious years when his contract expires at the end of the season.
His current contract has not been renewed, and after 360 appearances and 109 goals, he will look for greener pastures this summer. Firmino previously led the line in a fearsome front three that included Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, and was frequently hailed as the trio’s unsung hero.
