Liverpool is interested in signing James Ward-Prowse as part of a midfield makeover

James Ward-Prowse

It’s no secret that central midfield is Liverpool’s first objective this summer transfer season. We’ll see what happens with Thiago Alcantara’s contract, which expires next summer, but it’s feasible Liverpool may sign three new midfielders this summer, with James Ward-Prowse the next target.

I know you’ve heard it before, but Liverpool wants a player on Southampton FC! Important Information!
According to the Daily Mail, the Merseyside club wants to buy Ward-Prowse from Southampton this summer and are willing to pay up to, or possibly more than, $60 million/50 million GBP. According to reports, that is the Southampton valuation.

Southampton is used to acting as Anfield‘s farm club, so this may be a good arrangement for everyone involved. That is something we are all aware of. Ward-Prowse, the 28-year-old English international, is unlikely to desire to play in the Championship. And the Saints captain, who has spent his whole career with the south coast club, fits right in with Jurgen Klopp‘s style.

Of course, the Reds will face stiff competition for him, with both Newcastle United and West Ham United allegedly interested. The latter will be especially driven to sign a new midfielder because Declan Rice will be leaving and they will need to replace him. The Hammers will have plenty of cash to spend.

To return to Liverpool, they only recently confirmed the signing of Alexis MacAllister from Brighton. After missing out on Jude Bellingham, he was a solid backup alternative. So congrats to Anfield for starting their summer shopping early.

However, they still have a lot of work to do in terms of rebuilding this position group. Contracts for Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and James Milner all expired this summer. Fabinho is under contract through 2026, but his future is still unknown.
