Liverpool are apparently ‘no longer exploring’ a deal for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, giving Manchester United first dibs.
The Merseyside club had been tipped to capture the Blues star for some time until their bitter rivals pounced.
Mount is expected to quit Chelsea after rejecting a new contract offer. Indeed, with his current contract scheduled to expire in 2024, this summer marks their final opportunity to make a reasonable return on his services.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool have withdrawn from talks to sign the England international after being put off by Chelsea’s £80 million asking price.
As a result, Jurgen Klopp is looking at other options. Manu Kone of Borussia Monchengladbach, for example, is ‘near’ to joining the Reds.

Also, according to CaughtOffside, Liverpool have begun a ‘new round of discussions’ with Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram.
Clearly, Klopp has made signing a new midfielder his primary priority, despite having already agreed to terms with Alexis MacAllister.
But one thing is certain: Mount will not be visiting Anfield this summer.
Mount is ‘near’ to joining Manchester United.
Man United are ‘near’ to signing Mount this summer, according to TEAMtalk. Erik ten Hag, like Klopp, is looking to reinforce his midfield for next season.

Scott McTominay has lately been linked with a transfer to Newcastle or Everton. Also, Fred is expected to leave Old Trafford this summer.
As a result, Ten Hag will need to sign at least one new midfielder. Mount is the manager’s main target, and Manchester United are certain they can sign him.
The 24-year-old made 35 appearances in all competitions in 2022/23. In the process, he scored three goals and assisted on six others.
Mount is a versatile player who can play as a center or offensive midfielder, as well as a winger on occasion. As a result, he may provide cover in numerous areas for Manchester United next season.
With personal terms not likely to be an issue, the only item left to negotiate between Manchester United and Chelsea is the transfer cost.
