Liverpool have reportedly made a ‘call’ to sign Napoli defender Kim Min-jae, who has been linked with Manchester United

Min-jae has had a fantastic few months since joining Napoli from Fenerbache in the summer for around £15 million

This season, the South Korean international has been in stunning form as Napoli have established themselves as the favourites to win Serie A

The defender was previously linked with the Premier League, with Tottenham being interested in him prior to his move to Napoli

Man United appear to have joined the race to sign Min-jae, who has been identified as a possible replacement for Harry Maguire

Min-jae could sign a summer deal because his £43 million release clause is said to be active for 15 days

Journalists Antonio Corrado and Mimmo Malfitano recently discussed a’meeting’ between Man United and representatives of Min-jae

“I can tell you that Kim and his meeting with a foreign club took place at the Paradiso Hotel in Naples,” Corrado said

“It was held the week before the match against Udinese [November 12]. I couldn’t figure out what the name of the club was

“Whoever gave me the news said they spoke in English but couldn’t remember the name of the club. It’s no coincidence that Napoli moved quickly to renew the player’s contract and remove the release clause”

“So I’ll tell you: the club in question was Manchester United,” Malfitano added

Liverpool appears to be in the running to sign Min-jae. This comes after it was revealed that Virgil van Dijk has suffered a ‘worse than expected’ injury

The centre-back was substituted at halftime in Liverpool’s 3-1 loss to Brentford earlier this week

Van Dijk was scheduled to meet with a specialist this week as the club attempts to determine the extent of his injury
