Liverpool are allegedly interested in signing Ismaila Sarr as Jürgen Klopp looks to enhance the Reds’ attacking options in the summer
The Watford winger had already been connected with the Reds (through Fabrizio Romano for CaughtOffside), and he almost paired up with an Anfield great last year.
According to Sky Sports, the Senegalese attacker accepted a £25 million move to Aston Villa, who were coached at the time by Steven Gerrard, only for successive stumbling blocks to cause the deal to fall through.
‘Among the many alternatives that Liverpool manages to enhance their assault, that of the Senegalese footballer from Watford, Ismaila Sarr, is one of the ones that the German coach Jürgen Klopp likes the most,’ Spanish publication Fichajes claimed on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old has ‘no intention of extending his contract’ at Vicarage Road, which ‘places him on Liverpool’s list of great targets for next season,’ according to the source.
The Reds are well aware of the harm Sarr can inflict when at his best, recalling our shocking 3-0 defeat at Watford little over three years ago, when he scored two goals to inflict our first league defeat of the title-winning season.
“And I’m telling you, I’ve never seen somebody accelerate from a standing start as quickly as he does.”
Klopp appears to be a fan of the 25-year-old, who has proved he can make an impact in the final third, but given our glut of attacking options, he appears to be a luxury addition, especially when other positions should be of considerably higher significance.
