If Real Madrid signs Kylian Mbappe and two other players this summer, Liverpool may have a chance to sign one of their former targets
If Real Madrid decides to pursue a lucrative move for Kylian Mbappe this summer, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could be in line to sign one of his former high-profile targets. The Spanish giants have long been fans of Mbappe, whom they attempted to bring to the Bernabeu two years ago but were turned down by Paris Saint-Germain.

Since then, Real Madrid has been linked with a new approach for the Frenchman, and they are also thought to be in advanced talks with Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham. According to Fabrizio Romano, the England playmaker has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League with Manchester City in recent weeks, but is now widely expected to join Real Madrid on a long-term deal, with personal terms agreed earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports reports that Real Madrid are keen to add Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies to their ranks this summer, alongside Mbappe and Bellingham, though the reigning European champions would undoubtedly need to make room for all three players.

After establishing himself as one of Europe’s best young prospects during his time at Monaco, Tchouameni was pursued by Liverpool in the summer of 2021, but he ultimately chose Real Madrid after being swayed by the La Liga heavyweights. Klopp reportedly spoke with Tchouameni several times in an attempt to persuade him to join the Reds, but his efforts were ultimately futile.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will be tempted to renew their pursuit of the 23-year-old before the start of the next season, with the Merseyside giants desperate for improvements in the engine room after struggling to win midfield battles on a consistent basis this season. His defensive ability would undoubtedly aid Liverpool’s midfield possession, while his impressive physical attributes and playmaking ability would also give the Reds a cutting edge in the final third.

It could be argued that if Liverpool fail to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season, they risk missing out on a move for Tchouameni, though Klopp insisted last week that he was not concerned about being beaten to deals in the absence of Champions League football in the coming months.
“If I’m allowed to talk to a player, which is rare, you can tell if they’re interested,” Klopp explained. “They would be aware that we are not certain to be in the Champions League next season.”
“There is one thing we cannot guarantee for next year, but everything else remains the same.” It is an excellent football club. We are still Liverpool, and we are very appealing to many players. That does not concern me. Of course, without the Champions League, things are more difficult.”
