According to reports, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is looking to Nicolo Barella and Alexis MacAllister to lead his rebuilding efforts at Anfield
The Reds are having a poor season by their recent standards, sitting eighth in the Premier League with no chance of silverware.
Liverpool’s 6-1 thrashing of Leeds United on Monday night has given them a slim chance of finishing in the top four, but they will almost certainly have to win every game until the end of the season.
The Liverpool midfield has received the brunt of the criticism for the club’s poor season, with speculation that they will sign at least two new midfielders during the summer transfer window.
Numerous names have been linked, with Klopp insisting last week that no attempt would be made to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham in the summer.
With Bellingham out of the picture, Liverpool’s focus has shifted elsewhere, with Inter Live reporting that the Reds could deliver a double blow to Inter Milan this summer.
Liverpool are planning a’real revolution’ at Anfield with Barella, whom Klopp has ‘always liked,’ and are willing to pay up to €60 million for the Italy international.
Following his heroics for the Seagulls and Argentina this season, Brighton midfielder Mac Allister has also been heavily linked with Liverpool, and the report adds that the 24-year-old’remains a real’ target for Inter.
Liverpool will ‘above all try to sign’ Mac Allister, with a fee of around €70 million believed to be sufficient to secure the Argentina international, but Inter Live doubts the Italian club can compete with the Reds.
It all adds up to a ‘rather expensive overall investment worth €130m (£115m)’ for Barella and Mac Allister, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claiming that a “early transfer” for Mac Allister is expected.
In his Caught Offside column, Romano mentioned potential Liverpool interest in Conor Gallagher and other midfield targets, writing, “I’m aware there has been talk of Liverpool, Newcastle, and others eyeing up Conor Gallagher.”
“His departure this summer is a possibility, but no clubs have approached him.” At this point, nothing is advanced. Chelsea will consider bids because they need to sell some players, but nothing is finalized.
“Regarding reports of an important Liverpool recruitment meeting last week, it’s normal for top clubs to meet and discuss targets; it doesn’t sound like big news to me.” It’s standard procedure for football clubs. What I can tell you for now is that Jurgen Klopp will play a significant role in the decision-making process, and midfielders will continue to be a priority for the Reds.
“Alexis Mac Allister and his camp believe that a summer move away from Brighton is a foregone conclusion.” An early transfer is anticipated. Both Liverpool and Manchester United appear to be close to beginning negotiations on the player’s side.
“Jurgen Klopp on the number of new signings: “I cannot give you a number, and I don’t want to give you a number.” It all comes down to doing the right things. We always try to be as strategic as possible in the transfer market.”
