Liverpool intends to clarify Fabinho’s future “this week” before attempting to recruit a replacement midfielder, with £50 million-rated Romeo Lavia at the top of the list

The Reds’ summer window has included a number of midfield moves. They have seen Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, and James Milner leave on free transfers, and it appears that club captain Jordan Henderson may shortly leave for Saudi Arabian side Al Ettifaq.

More permanent midfield exits could occur this summer, as Al Ittihad is interested in Fabinho, and that move appears to be progressing nicely.

Because the center of the field has been destroyed, midfield reinforcements will be required. Alexis MacAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai have both arrived, and Southampton midfielder Lavia could be joining them soon.

For months, the Saints midfielder has been a target for Liverpool, as well as the rest of the Premier League’s top clubs. The transfer to Anfield might be on the horizon, and while it isn’t directly driven by Fabinho’s prospective departure, insider Ben Jacobs claims the Reds want an answer on his future sooner rather than later.

“They will clarify [Fabinho’s future] this week, and then they will sign a new midfielder.” Liverpool, in any scenario, want to sign a midfielder,” Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT.

A sum of £40 million has been proposed for Fabinho’s transfer to Saudi Arabia. That takes care of a portion of Lavia’s asking price, and while Liverpool aren’t thrilled with what they’ll have to pay, the departure of Fabinho could be the spark for them to do so.

“One of the names on the list is Romeo Lavia.” They’re not thrilled with the asking price. Southampton has requested for around £50 million. They want to pay a lot less for Lavia,” Jacobs noted.

“They are also aware of other clubs’ interests, including Chelsea’s.” So, while the Lavia situation is complicated, he is undoubtedly one of the names on the list.”

If both Fabinho and Henderson go, it appears they’ll need to acquire a new midfielder or two, so even if it’s not Lavia, it’ll be a huge surprise if someone isn’t signed by Jurgen Klopp’s side shortly.
