Kentucky Duo Impresses Again at NBA Draft Combine — But One Wildcat Still Awaits His Breakthrough
The spotlight was on the Kentucky boys once again as Day Two of the 2025 NBA Draft Combine rolled on in Chicago, and both Otega Oweh and Koby Brea stepped up showing scouts why they deserve a shot at the league. The two Wildcats put together another round of solid numbers in 5-on-5 scrimmage action, proving they belong in the conversation.
Koby Brea Leads the Charge
Koby Brea, Kentucky’s 6-foot-7 sharpshooting transfer, delivered a strong performance on Wednesday. He finished with 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 assist in 30 minutes, shooting 6-of-12 from the field and 4-of-8 from three-point range. Once again, Brea demonstrated the exact skills that make him an appealing second-round prospect spacing the floor, scoring efficiently, and moving off the ball with purpose.
For a player who has exhausted his college eligibility, this Combine is his final opportunity to show NBA front offices that he’s ready for the jump. So far, he’s making the most of it.
Otega Oweh Continues to Battle for His NBA Break
Right behind Brea in production was Otega Oweh the All-SEC guard who has yet to decide whether he’ll return to Kentucky for his senior season. Oweh tallied 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 assist in just 25 minutes. He was highly efficient, shooting 4-of-8 from the field and a perfect 1-of-1 from beyond the arc.
This marks Oweh’s second straight productive scrimmage at the Combine. He’s been active on both ends of the floor, showcasing his athleticism, defensive versatility, and an improving outside shot. Still, despite the strong showings, Oweh remains a fringe prospect on most mock draft boards. He currently sits at No. 72 on ESPN’s “Best Available” list outside of the 59 picks in this year’s NBA Draft.
A Decision Looms Large
While Brea’s path forward is clear he’s going pro Oweh remains at a career crossroads. The deadline to withdraw from the NBA Draft and return to college is May 28, giving him less than two weeks to decide his future. With Kentucky fans watching closely, the pressure is mounting.
If he returns to Lexington, Oweh will instantly be a favorite for Preseason SEC Player of the Year and a central figure in Mark Pope’s national title chase. But if he stays in the draft, he’ll be betting on his development continuing within an NBA or G League system likely under a two-way contract.
What It All Means for Big Blue Nation
Regardless of what happens next, one thing is certain: both Brea and Oweh have made the Kentucky program proud. Their performances in Chicago have shown that they can hold their own with the best young talent in the world. For #BBN, it’s a bittersweet moment proud to see their guys shining, but nervously awaiting Oweh’s final call.
With a few Combine workouts and interviews still ahead, there’s more data to gather and maybe, just maybe, Oweh’s rising stock will finally crack the mock draft ceiling.
But if not? Lexington might just get one more season of one of its most dynamic guards.
Stay tuned.
