Liverpool fans are on high alert due to rumors of interest in Jurgen Klopp for the position of manager of the German national team

After his team’s 4-1 loss to Japan in a friendly, Hansi Flick (incredibly) became the first person to be fired as Germany manager since the position was created in 1926.

Germany have now endured rout in four of their last five trips, while the four-time World Cup champs didn’t get bunch stage in Qatar the previous winter.

Although early reports claim that Klopp is on the DFB’s (the German FA’s) wish list to succeed Flick, Rudi Voller will temporarily lead the national team.

Klopp said earlier this summer that it would be a “great honor” to manage the German team and did not rule out the possibility.

According to 90 Minutes, the DFB might even offer Klopp the chance to finish the season at Liverpool before taking on the position full-time.

Even though it seems unlikely that Klopp, who signed a contract extension at Liverpool that runs until 2026, would be ready to leave Anfield before it’s time, it has fans wondering who will eventually take over as manager of the Reds when the time comes.

Xabi Alonso is frequently mentioned as a potential manager for Liverpool.

The 41-year-old Spaniard is currently the head coach at Bayer Leverkusen, where he has impressed after making more than 200 appearances for the Reds between 2004 and 2009.

Alonso took over in 2022 and led a team that was on the verge of relegation to the semi-finals of the Europa League. This summer, he even got a contract extension until 2026.

Notwithstanding, as per Game Bild (by means of GFNG), that agreement contains a ‘secret understanding’ that would permit Alonso to leave his part in Germany for another work, on the off chance that a reasonable deal is introduced, without breaking contract.

However it appears to be this understanding is not really ‘secret’, it is genuinely standard practice and intends that, fundamentally, a group like Liverpool would be met with little opposition assuming they recognized Alonso as the man to supplant Klopp before 2026.

Alonso, who was a member of Rafa Benitez’s Liverpool team that won the Champions League in 2005, began his coaching career with Real Madrid Under-14s before taking over Real Sociedad B, where he won promotion to Spain’s Segunda Division.
