Jurgen Klopp may have helped Liverpool strike a bargain ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

According to former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp struck a serious bargain by signing Alexis MacAllister from Brighton and Hove Albion for less than £60 million. Mac Allister is expected to become Liverpool’s first summer signing in the coming days, with the Argentina international expected to sign a long-term contract at Anfield after reaching a full agreement on personal terms with the Reds.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool will pay the full value of Mac Allister’s release clause in order to secure his signature, but the fee will be far less than the £60 million reported in recent weeks. Jordan was quick to praise Liverpool for moving quickly when asked about his thoughts on talkSPORT, and he also believes the Reds have ‘underpaid’ for Mac Allister after his most successful season for club and country to date.

“Let’s see if this Liverpool refresh can give them what they need, which is an infusion of energy and youth, so we’ll see,” Jordan said. “I don’t think Brighton have really tied him down, do you?” What did they accomplish?

“You’ve got a World Cup winner returning.” They tied him up in order to sell him to Liverpool for a fraction of his market value, so I imagine they’ll be disappointed with the situation because it happened so quickly. I thought we had Mac Allister locked up in a situation where someone would have to pay top dollar for him.

I would have asked for more money for him. I’d like the big clubs that come along and take everyone else’s vision and don’t do it themselves to pay a fair price for him. Brighton’s reward for their brilliant effort, scouting, due diligence, and everything else that other people can’t be bothered with should be top money, taking the top club’s pants off and making them pay for it.

“The point is that they’ve met his release clause, so the discussion is over.” I would not say anything. I would have stated that I desired a larger release clause. Didn’t they sign the contract before he went to the World Cup? That was the case.

Manchester United were linked with a move for Mac Allister before Liverpool stepped in to secure his signature, with the Reds hoping to complete the deal by the end of this week, according to the Daily Mail. They are said to be hoping to complete the majority of their summer business before the start of pre-season training and could follow up the signing of Mac Allister by pursuing Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes, who is also said to be admired by those in power at Anfield.

Mason Mount emerged as a transfer target for Liverpool following the end of the Premier League season, but he is now widely expected to join Manchester United, who are reportedly preparing to make an official bid for the England playmaker behind closed doors. The Liverpool club will have a busy summer window and will need to find replacements for their recently departed players, with the likes of James Milner, Roberto Firmino, and Naby Keita set for release before the end of the month.
